What’s the Point of it All?
Do you feel like you live life with a purpose?
In my opinion, the unhappiest people I know are the ones who haven’t found their purpose. They live life as though it’s drudgery and get through each day, go to bed, then wake up and do it again. Some of them do it with a bitter taste in their mouth that overflows and affects those they come in contact with like family, friends, or even strangers they interact with throughout their days. Many of them you can watch their social media and based on the energy they put into the online arena, you can tell.. yep, they haven’t found their purpose. They want to criticize others who are maybe living the life they wish they could live, or are feeling the joy they wish they could feel. They try to malign the efforts of those living out their own purpose and downplay their contributions to making the world a kinder place to live. If you are living your purpose, don’t let them take away from your efforts!
The struggle between the two camps always makes me sad because I believe every human on earth is here as part of their universal learning experience, and that each one of us have a purpose. We aren’t born knowing what it is. We must explore the millions of options out there until we find it! How? Embrace new experiences and grow as you figure out what it is that brings you joy and ignites a passion within!
Here’s a tip: Your purpose doesn’t have to be a huge-change-the-world kind of thing! It could be something as simple as helping those in need. Fostering dogs. Volunteering with the elderly. Teaching someone how to make a quilt, or how to plant a garden. Or simply being a light for those in your neighborhood when they need something small.
Those are all easy things to try to see if they make you feel fulfilled. Or, you can go big. Start a charity. Build a non-profit that helps others. Put together a women’s support group or design something that is needed in the world.
Start simply. Make a list of things you like to do. Then make a list of needs around you. Eventually it will lead to you finding your purpose and you’ll find what gives your life meaning.
But it’s totally up to you.
We all have free will and if you want to use up your yours feeling bitter and unfulfilled, that’s your choice. A sad decision, but yours.
I can tell you this much, I don’t regret a single one of the thousands of hours I’ve spent following my own purpose in life.
And you won’t either.

Well said! I believe you have to rethink your purpose in life as life progresses. Changes in life: career changes, marital status, being a parent, kids moving onward and out, medical issues, all of these can make one rethink one’s purpose and reinvent yourself. I recently went through several of these in a short time and wrestled with who I was. Once I realized I had to “reinvent” myself which has made a big difference.
You always have such thought-provoking posts. Thank you!
