I just read and reviewed Silent Tears on Amazon (D. Speese). I witnessed some of the same things at an orphanage we spent some time in several years ago. I do not think I would have had the strength to stay for so long. My one week changed me, I can only imagine the incredible weight that you have carried.

Lisa,

It sounds like an amazing experience--I'm a bit jealous! Seriously though, you describe it so well I feel as if I were there and I am so happy that it was a great time by all. And yes, you might have the bug...the 'gotta do something more' bug! It will lead you where you need to be and every minute you give of volunteering your time and energy will be a gift back to you tenfold.

Thanks for telling me about your celebration.

Kay--I just coordinated a 21 family (including 49 children--28 adopted from China) Chinese New Year's Festival here in our area. It was a breeze to do--every family chipped in and no one had to do too much--the best kind of event. Anywho--it was a wonderful event--at the end we dimmed the lights, the kids grabbed their lighted lanterns they had just made and we did our own version of a Dragon Dance--where the children danced under the dragon tail--and one of the older kids held the paper dragon head--all to a traditional Chinese New Year Music, bellowing from our old fashioned CD player. I got goosebumps all over my body and tears flooded my eyes as it began and the children giggled with delight! The joy in my heart was overflowing--with the opportunity this gathering gave us--gave our children for one evening.

This little volunteer opportunity--to touch the lives of these special families and children--now home--but still Chinese--was so addicting. I can't wait to organize another event. So...I can only imagine--multiplying this a million, zillion times over--and your heart, mind and body must have been in complete turmoil not being able to continue your work there. It really does still cross my mind--and I'm happy to hear you have leveled your life again--and continue to work and touch the lives you left behind. In more ways than you probably know--or will ever know.
